So I thought about trying to write this for quite awhile now- an actual story that, if I finish, would send in to actually try and publish it. I'm not a good writer though which is what kept me back.
But I thought I'd give it a shot now...only the first page is done so it's obviously not going to be that 'done' but I want to try to show others what I'm doing.
----------------------------------------------------------
The bright afternoon sun shines down upon the thick dense forest below it, letting all who live in the forest see clearly. The birds are singing happy melodies of a bright new day and wolf pups, not even a year old are running around their den chasing each other. It was a perfect day to the pups and their parents.
Not too long after living in their perfect world does the sky start to darken as if a blanket made of clouds is being placed over the sun, all but one of the wolf pups suddenly vanish and the parents look up in the sky with their ears held high and tail straight. The birds flew away and in their place came a large dark being. It had what looked like two wings sticking straight up and to the sides, spinning faster than a hummingbird could flap its wings. Its legs were stiff as rocks and shaped like skis. It had no face- only a big black front covered by dark green all over it. The noise it made was at least five times louder than the birds chirping and two times than a waterfall. Its tail was extremely long and stiff; at the end of the tail was what looked like two more wings stuck out and were spinning, but not nearly as fast as the two large ones above its head.
The parents looked down to their now only one cub and forced him underneath a large rock, trying to hide him with dirt, but leaving only enough space for him to breathe.
Afterwards the two turned back to the large creature as it flew overhead as the pup stayed under the rock, shivering and cowering. The pup’s parents hid him to the point of where he could only hear the loud noises the large creature in the air was making. And then, one more noise louder than the creature. It sounded as if someone had dropped a boulder from fifty feet in the air but the sound of it was if he were right under that boulder. There was a howl of pain; one he would remember for the rest of his life- his mother’s howl. Then it sounded like another boulder fell, his father howls came shortly after.
The pup didn’t know what to do, he heard some more noises that sounded gentler, but they didn’t sound anything like he had heard. He tried to dig through the dirt to get back above ground but paused when he caught a glimpse of what lay before him. His mother and father were lying on the ground motionless with two large red patches of fur on their chest. What stood up before him were two animals he had never seen before as well as the creature from the air earlier. The creature from the air had landed but it’s multiple wings were still spinning very fast. The other two creatures however were new to him. They reminded him of monkeys in a way but had many different traits. Their feet were both like large hoof of a horse that jutted out front with no center to it and they had an odd pattern on the front. Their legs were dark blue with a small hole in the front of it- their legs alone were at least three feet long! Above that their torsos were black in the center with orange on the sides, the orange looked as if it was significantly bigger and stood out more. On the sides of the orange chests were two arms. The pup knew what arms looked like after all- he had seen monkeys with them. They had what were called ‘hands’ at the end of the arms which were much larger than paws. They were each holding strange objects. The objects shined like a sparkling rock but were shaped nothing like a rock at all. There was a large shaft at the end of them with a hole in the center about as big as an eye, but nothing visible inside them at all.
He went back to looking at the creatures and noticed their head resembled that of monkeys too, except for the top which looked like a giant leaf, though was shaped more like that of a rock with a leaf under it. The two beings continued talking to one another in a language the pup didn’t understand before they took his mother and father up and into the large creature from the air, it looked like part of it’s body was wide open for them to enter but there was nothing inside of it. The large winged creature took off with the two other beings and the pup’s parents inside and the pup no longer felt the strength to try to dig his way out. He could only form tears in his eyes seeing his parents being taken right before him.
Mystery awoke in a cold sweat; his eyes darted from left to right and all around him, even above and below. He had been having the same dream for years ever since the terrible incident. But what had happened so many years ago- that wasn’t a dream. It was a nightmare, a living nightmare.
He shook his dark gray head and sighed. His tail drooped between his legs. “Mother…father…” he said in a low tone. “If only I were stronger…”
Mystery stretched and jumped off the small hill he had fallen asleep on. The full moon and stars were shining on the forest, it was harder to see in the daytime but most of the creatures in the woods had fallen asleep anyways.
Mystery’s life had been nothing but hardships ever since he was a lone pup. He had to try to find his own food and try to find other packs. He was well aware that one pack existed in this forest- the Starlight pack. But he was afraid to join. He was afraid of what would happen since the other packs he had tried were nothing but more nightmares added to his dreams.
His first pack that wasn’t with his family he had a love. It was a small pack of only about five members including him; but then one day the nightmare he has had since he was a pup occurred again. The same creature flying overhead, the same noises- it was all burned in Mystery’s mind. All he knew to do then was to dive for cover. He tried to warn the other wolves about it but it was too late. He heard the loud boulder falling multiple times. And when he turned to see the other wolves, it looked like a massacre had occurred. He knew what would happen next and he did the only thing he could think of doing- run. Run far and run fast.
Mystery reached a river that had clear water running through it and looked at his own reflection. He had dark gray eyes that perfectly matched his dark gray hide. He had a large white spot on his chest but little else noticeable. His ears twitched at the sound of splashing and he saw a fish jumping and swimming away, moving swiftly with the current it was in. Immediately Mystery’s stomach growled at the sight- food was becoming very hard to come by day by day. He had to do something, anything, if he were to survive another day- even if that meant he would have to try to join the Starlight pack.
“Maybe I can sleep better here…” Mystery said to himself and lay down next to the river and closed his eyes, trying to drift to sleep and forget his past.

Morning soon came and a different wolf suddenly slid on the dirt ground after being tossed. The black wolf quickly recovered and growled at what threw it- a large bear. The bear let out a deafening roar before charging the wolf. Quickly the wolf rolled to its side like a matador without its cape. The bear was aiming right for a tree and its momentum didn’t slow down- hitting the tree with a loud thud and falling down. The black wolf grinned. “Not a very bright bear are you?” he teased.
The bear responded with a groan and slowly stood back up. It soon let out another roar- loud enough to cause the wolf to flatten his ears. “Come on is that all you’ve got!” the wolf barked. The grin on his face quickly turned to a frown though when he heard another bear roar- one behind him. The wolf slowly turned around to see another bear and then looked at the first one. “Cheater.” He said before darting off- the bear that just came following behind.
Back at the river Mystery had his eyes closed with his tail gently stroking the top of the water, still trying to sleep. The loud sounds had clearly awoken him though since his ears were shot up at the sound of running and coming right towards him. One of his eyes opened to see a black wolf coming closer and closer to him. Mystery closed his eye and sighed. Just ignore him. He thought to himself. Before he could pull off his plan though, the black wolf stopped just short of Mystery and nudged him but hard. “Hey get up! I need some help here!” the black wolf said.
Mystery kept his eyes closed, not responding to the black wolf at all.
The black wolf glared at Mystery for a moment before casually walking to the river side, reaching his head down behind Mystery, and biting his tail. His eyes shot open and he howled in pain. The black wolf let go just as Mystery turned his head towards the black wolfs, his eyes glaring into the black wolfs own. “What did you do that for?!” he barked. Shortly after, a familiar roar he heard before blasted through the woods.
“That’s why!” The black wolf replied. “I got at least two bears chasing me and I could use a little help!”
Mystery shook his head and huffed. He looked around seeing nothing to hide behind, but the bears weren’t in his vision yet, so maybe there was a chance. He suddenly shoved the black wolf into the river. “Stay down and stay quiet.” Mystery turned to see the two bears now approaching, both brown fur and neither of them looked very happy. “Where is he?!” one of them growled. Mystery’s eyes rolled to the direction they came from, and then the opposite direction. “You just missed him. He ran down that way.” He tilted his head a little. The two bears glared at him for a moment, as if trying to read his eyes. Soon they turned and nodded to each other and ran off.
After the bears were out of sight yet again, Mystery turned to see the black wolf emerging from under the water, crawling onto the dry land, his fur matted down to him from the water. “Thanks…” he said shaking his body wildly to dry off. “I think.”
Mystery nodded a little. “Better run before they see you again.”
The black wolf turned in the direction he ran and started walking forward- but paused and turned around. “Hey, haven’t I seen you around before? What’s your pack? How close is it to our territory?”
“Don’t have one.” Mystery replied with a heavy sigh. The black wolf’s ears twitched and his lips curved up into a small smile. “Today’s your lucky day. Why not join ours?”

Mystery froze in place. Joining a pack? Was this the Starlight pack? Would they be willing to accept him so easily? His mind was racing with questions as he tried to compare the positives and negatives of the pack. A pack was the safest place for a wolf to be. There would be safety in numbers in a pack and he could get food much easier than he was getting now. He knew of his past, but if he didn’t join, he would surely starve. “I’ll…take a look and then decide.” He finally answered. The black wolf jumped happily in the air. “Great!” he exclaimed. “Our home isn’t far. Come on I’ll take you there!” with that the black wolf jogged away from Mystery. He watched the black wolf for a moment, and then followed slowly. His mind was racing with thoughts about the pack. What it would be like, what would happen in there, if he would be accepted in the first place or not. Surely this wolf wasn’t the alpha, the leader, of the pack.
The black wolf led Mystery past various trees, most of the trees held a familiar scent, it was territory markings. Mystery knew that it meant the pack was nearby, and that they were staking claim in places. It was actually a good thing to know they had territory. It would make him feel safer should he be accepted. He soon found the black wolf a good distance ahead, waiting for him.
“Hey,” The black wolf started. “I never got your name.”
Mystery walked closer to the black wolf for a moment. “It’s Mystery.”
“Mystery is it?” The black wolf grinned. “Here they call me Johnny.”
The dark gray wolf, Mystery, paused in his tracks, looking up at ‘Johnny’ the black wolf and tilting his head a little. “Johnny is an odd name.”
Johnny’s mouth curved into a grin. “I know but hey. It’s what parents give ya. They said it was one of those strange creature’s names they met before, the two legged creatures that kind of look like monkeys. It was honestly the only word they understood from it in the first place but the creature that said it was really strong so they gave the name to me.” Johnny started walking forward again at his excited pace. “What about you? Where’s your name from?”
Mystery walked behind Johnny again at his slow pace. “Don’t know; never asked my parents about my name. I never got to know them enough.”
Johnny paused in his tracks again. “Ouch. Well don’t worry. We’re like family here. We share our food- even to newcomers. But we ask that you don’t attack any of us unless you’re training with them. I know I need a partner myself to toughen up with.”
Mystery’s brow rose. “Is that an invitation?”
“No no not at all.” Johnny turned back at him, looking a little flushed. “I mean if you wanted to that would be great. Anyway, we’re coming up on the den now.”
Mystery shook his head a little as he walked behind Johnny. His ears twitched at the sound of playful barking and growling, the smell of a variety of wolves entered his nose as well as the strong sense of territory. He was suddenly feeling at unease and taking more delicate steps. If he were rejected from this pack, who knows what would happen to him. He was knee deep in their territory now- at the heart of it in fact.
As he took his slow and careful steps to the den, his head raised at the new sights. He saw two wolves playing what looked like a tug-of-war on a bone, a pure white wolf and another gray wolf, with black spots on their paws. He turned his head again to see another wolf with dark red colored fur. He saw no pups or any other wolves besides the three, and Johnny. He did see a fairly large cave though which he could only assume the leader wolves, the alphas, were in.

I'm going to end the 'introduction' there after giving it some thought- it's a work in progress that will take a long time to complete but I hope you enjoyed reading the beginning of only to be a series of events to unfold.
I'll reveal a little more of it if people gain interest, but I won't be showing much more (If any) of the story.
